Quick Answer

The 2026 FIFA World Cup runs from 11 June to 19 July 2026, across the USA, Mexico and Canada. All 48 teams play three group stage matches; the top two from each group plus the eight best third-placed teams advance to the Round of 32. After that it is straight knockout football — Round of 16, Quarter-Finals, Semi-Finals, and the Final at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey on 19 July. Below you will find every team's group stage fixtures with UK kick-off times, what each group finish means for their route, and a link to each team's dedicated bracket page on CupRoute.

How the 2026 World Cup Format Works

For the first time 48 teams compete at a World Cup. They are split into 12 groups of four, with every team playing three matches.

After the group stage:

  • 1st and 2nd place in each group automatically qualify for the Round of 32 (24 teams)
  • The 8 best third-placed teams across all 12 groups also advance (8 teams)
  • 4th place and non-qualifying 3rd-place teams are eliminated

From the Round of 32 onwards it is one-match knockout until the Final. Teams that win their group are placed in a different bracket path from runners-up, making the finishing position in the group stage a significant tactical consideration.

All UK kick-off times in this article are British Summer Time (BST). BST is 5 hours ahead of Eastern Time (ET).

Group A: Mexico, South Korea, South Africa, Czechia

Mexico's 2026 World Cup Route

Mexico open the entire tournament as hosts — the honour of the first match at Estadio Azteca in front of a packed house in Mexico City falls to El Tri. As one of six CONCACAF teams at this World Cup, Mexico carry the weight of a nation's expectation and are strong favourites to qualify from Group A.

Group A fixtures — UK kick-off times (BST):

DateMatchVenueUK Time
Thu 11 JunMexico vs South AfricaEstadio Azteca, Mexico City8pm
Thu 18 JunMexico vs South KoreaEstadio Akron, Guadalajara2am (Fri)
Wed 24 JunCzechia vs MexicoEstadio Azteca, Mexico City2am (Thu)

If Mexico finish 1st: They enter the Round of 32 on the favourable side of their bracket half and could avoid the heavyweight European sides until the later knockout rounds.

If Mexico finish 2nd: A tougher Round of 32 draw, likely facing the winner of a nearby group.

If Mexico finish 3rd: Third place would need to be among the eight best across all groups — possible but far from guaranteed.

South Korea's 2026 World Cup Route

South Korea have a consistent record of surprising opponents at World Cups, most recently reaching the Round of 16 in 2022. Their clash with Mexico is the decisive Group A match that will likely determine second place.

Group A fixtures — UK kick-off times (BST):

Thu 11 JunSouth Korea vs CzechiaEstadio Akron, Guadalajara3am (Fri)
Thu 18 JunMexico vs South KoreaEstadio Akron, Guadalajara2am (Fri)
Wed 24 JunSouth Africa vs South KoreaEstadio BBVA, Monterrey2am (Thu)

If South Korea finish 1st: A first-place finish is possible but would require a strong result against Mexico. It would open up a more favourable Round of 32 path.

If South Korea finish 2nd: The more likely outcome. A knockout tie against a group winner from an adjacent group follows.

South Africa's 2026 World Cup Route

South Africa face the tournament's very first kick-off, taking on hosts Mexico at Estadio Azteca. Bafana Bafana will draw inspiration from their 2010 home World Cup and will be hoping to spring an opening-night surprise.

Group A fixtures — UK kick-off times (BST):

Thu 18 JunCzechia vs South AfricaMercedes-Benz Stadium, Atlanta5pm
Wed 24 JunSouth Africa vs South KoreaEstadio BBVA, Monterrey2am (Thu)

See South Africa's full bracket route on CupRoute

Czechia's 2026 World Cup Route

Czechia qualified through the UEFA playoffs and are a well-drilled European side fully capable of competing against South Africa and South Korea. Their game against South Africa on June 18 is the key match for their progression hopes.

Route: A win over South Africa combined with anything from the South Korea game would likely be enough for second place. A third-place finish with four or more points could still see them through to the Round of 32.

Group B: Canada, Bosnia & Herzegovina, Qatar, Switzerland

Canada's 2026 World Cup Route

Canada co-host the 2026 World Cup and have the benefit of playing their group stage games at home in Toronto and Vancouver. After a disappointing 2022 debut, this is a more experienced, more dangerous Canada side led by Alphonso Davies and Jonathan David.

DateMatchVenueUK Time
Fri 12 JunCanada vs Bosnia & HerzegovinaBMO Field, Toronto8pm
Thu 18 JunCanada vs QatarBC Place, Vancouver11pm
Wed 24 JunSwitzerland vs CanadaBC Place, Vancouver8pm

If Canada finish 1st: Home advantage could propel them to top spot in Group B, and a favourable Round of 32 draw follows.

If Canada finish 2nd: Likely the more realistic outcome, with Switzerland strong contenders for the group win.

If Canada finish 3rd: Canada would need to be among the eight best third-placed teams — a scenario they will want to avoid given their home support.

Bosnia & Herzegovina's 2026 World Cup Route

Bosnia & Herzegovina return to the World Cup for the first time since 2014. They face co-hosts Canada in their opener, which is a tough start, but a talented attack makes them dangerous in all three group games.

Qatar's 2026 World Cup Route

Qatar return to the World Cup as proper qualifiers after hosting in 2022, a tournament that ended embarrassingly with a group-stage exit. The Al Annabi have developed as a squad and will want to prove they belong at this level.

Switzerland's 2026 World Cup Route

Switzerland are one of Europe's most reliable World Cup nations. They reached the quarter-finals in 2022 and carry the experience and tactical solidity to challenge for top spot in Group B.

If Switzerland finish 2nd: Still very likely to qualify with the squad they have. Their knockout journey would begin against a group winner.

Group C: Brazil, Morocco, Haiti, Scotland

Brazil's 2026 World Cup Route

Brazil enter 2026 desperate to end a 24-year World Cup drought. Under a new coaching regime, the Seleção have rebuilt around Vinicius Jr and Rodrygo — and despite a traumatic 2022, the hunger and talent are both present. Their opener against Morocco in New Jersey is one of the most anticipated group-stage clashes of the entire tournament.

If Brazil finish 1st: Strong favourites to top Group C. A first-place finish keeps them away from Spain's side of the bracket, giving them a cleaner path to the final. Their semi-final path would avoid England and France.

If Brazil finish 2nd: Still qualify comfortably, but face a tougher Round of 32 opponent.

Morocco's 2026 World Cup Route

Morocco were the story of 2022 — the first African side to reach a World Cup semi-final. Much of that squad returns in 2026, and their opener against Brazil in New Jersey is the most intriguing Group C fixture. The Atlas Lions can go far again.

Group C fixtures — UK kick-off times (BST):

DateMatchVenueUK Time

If Morocco finish 2nd: The expected outcome. Morocco are the clear favourites for second, and a Round of 32 knockout tie would suit their organised, counter-attacking style.

Haiti's 2026 World Cup Route

If Scotland finish 2nd: Possible but requires wins over Haiti and Morocco — achievable. A second-place finish would be a historic result for Scottish football.

If Scotland qualify as 3rd: The most likely route through if they do progress. Wins over Haiti and a respectable showing against Morocco and Brazil, with a solid goal difference, could see them through the best-thirds route.

If Scotland finish 4th: They are eliminated. The Haiti game is therefore a must-not-lose.

Group E: Germany, Curaçao, Ivory Coast, Ecuador

Germany's 2026 World Cup Route

After humiliating group-stage exits in 2018 and 2022, Germany are rebuilding. Under Julian Nagelsmann, Florian Wirtz and Jamal Musiala power a new-look German side that is tactically sharper and hungrier than any German team of recent memory. Group E is very winnable.

If Belgium finish 2nd: Mohamed Salah's Egypt could push them if Salah is in top form. A second-place finish still means the Round of 32, but a tougher immediate draw.

Group H: Spain, Cape Verde, Saudi Arabia, Uruguay

Spain's 2026 World Cup Route

Spain are the number one ranked team in the world and the tournament's hottest favourites. Winners of Euro 2024, La Roja have depth, tactical sophistication and a generation of players at their peak — Lamine Yamal, Pedri, Alvaro Morata and Dani Olmo among them. Group H should be straightforward.

If Spain finish 1st: Near-certainty. In the bracket, Spain are placed on the opposite side from Argentina — meaning a Spain vs Argentina final is possible. Spain finishing first avoids England's side of the bracket until the semi-finals at the earliest. Their route to the final is as clear as any team's.

If Spain finish 2nd: Unlikely, but would create a more difficult bracket path through the knockouts.

Cape Verde's 2026 World Cup Route

Cape Verde make their World Cup debut — one of four first-timers at this tournament. The Blue Sharks have been one of Africa's most rapidly improving sides and their qualifying campaign showed real quality. Saudi Arabia's 2026 World Cup Route

Saudi Arabia memorably beat Argentina in 2022 in one of the greatest World Cup upsets of all time. They arrive in 2026 emboldened by that experience and by the growing quality of the Saudi Pro League. The Uruguay and Cape Verde games give them a realistic route to the knockout rounds.

Group I: France, Senegal, Iraq, Norway

France's 2026 World Cup Route

France are the co-favourites alongside Spain. Kylian Mbappé, now the undisputed leader of Les Bleus, arrives in 2026 at the peak of his powers. Didier Deschamps has built a deeply experienced squad around him. France are in the opposite bracket pathway from Spain — meaning a Spain vs France final would only happen if both win their respective halves.

Group I fixtures — UK kick-off times (BST):

DateMatchVenueUK Time
Tue 16 JunFrance vs SenegalMetLife Stadium, New Jersey8pm
Mon 22 JunFrance vs IraqLincoln Financial Field, Philadelphia10pm

If France finish 1st: Overwhelming favourites to top Group I. Finishing first keeps them in a strong bracket position — with England on the same side of the draw, France and England could potentially meet from the Round of 16 onwards. Their path to the final requires elite-level performances, which is exactly what this squad provides.

If France finish 2nd: Norway with Erling Haaland is the only team that could realistically push France in this group. A second-place finish would still see France qualify with ease.

Senegal's 2026 World Cup Route

Senegal are Africa's leading team heading into 2026. The Lions of Teranga, led by Sadio Mané, carry the experience of their 2022 campaign and the ambition to go further. Second place in Group I is the realistic and achievable target.

Route: Senegal's World Cup route depends on the Norway game. Beat Norway, win or draw against Iraq, and second place in Group I is theirs. Their squad has the quality to be competitive through the Round of 32 and beyond — and to be Africa's deepest representative at this tournament.

Iraq's 2026 World Cup Route

Iraq make an unexpected World Cup appearance after a strong AFC qualifying campaign. They face the toughest possible opening — France in New Jersey — but the Norway and Senegal matches offer genuine opportunities for results that could define their tournament.

Group I fixtures — UK kick-off times (BST):

DateMatchVenueUK Time
Tue 16 JunIraq vs NorwayGillette Stadium, Foxborough11pm
Mon 22 JunFrance vs IraqLincoln Financial Field, Philadelphia10pm
Fri 27 JunSenegal vs IraqBMO Field, Toronto8pm

Route: Iraq's opener against Norway is their most winnable game, and it is the match that will shape everything else. A third-place qualification via a win over Norway and a draw against Senegal is not beyond the realm of possibility for a team that shocked Asian rivals en route to this tournament.

Norway's 2026 World Cup Route

Norway return to the World Cup for the first time since 1998, and they bring with them Erling Haaland — quite possibly the most lethal striker in the world. For all the focus on their number nine, Norway under Ståle Solbakken are a well-drilled unit who pushed France during qualifying.

Group I fixtures — UK kick-off times (BST):

DateMatchVenueUK Time
Tue 16 JunIraq vs NorwayGillette Stadium, Foxborough11pm
Mon 23 JunNorway vs SenegalMetLife Stadium, New Jersey1am (Tue)
Fri 27 JunNorway vs FranceGillette Stadium, Foxborough8pm

If Norway finish 1st: Possible if Haaland is in devastating form. Beating Iraq and Senegal would likely be enough for second regardless; a draw or win against France would be a statement of intent.

If Norway finish 2nd: The expected outcome. A Round of 32 tie against a group winner follows. Norway are capable of making noise in the knockout rounds — their Round of 16 potential opponent would be among the teams to fear.

Group J: Argentina, Algeria, Austria, Jordan

Argentina's 2026 World Cup Route

Argentina are the defending World Cup champions and arrive in 2026 as the second favourites behind Spain. Lionel Messi, at 38, is almost certainly playing in his final World Cup — the Argentine squad, the nation, and neutral fans worldwide will be willing him to go out on the highest of highs.

Group J fixtures — UK kick-off times (BST):

DateMatchVenueUK Time
Wed 17 JunArgentina vs AlgeriaArrowhead Stadium, Kansas City2am (Wed)
Mon 22 JunArgentina vs AustriaAT&T Stadium, Dallas6pm
Sun 28 JunJordan vs ArgentinaAT&T Stadium, Dallas3am (Mon)

If Argentina finish 1st: Near-certainty. Argentina are placed on the opposite side of the bracket from Spain — a Spain vs Argentina final is the tournament's headline dream fixture. Their bracket position keeps them away from England and France until the semi-finals at the earliest.

If Argentina finish 2nd: Algeria would have to produce something extraordinary. Argentina will still qualify comfortably regardless.

Algeria's 2026 World Cup Route

Algeria are a dangerous African side with a passionate diaspora fanbase across North America. They have genuine quality in the squad and will target Austria and Jordan as the games that define their World Cup route.

Tue 23 JunJordan vs AlgeriaLevi's Stadium, Santa Clara4am (Wed)
Sun 28 JunAlgeria vs AustriaArrowhead Stadium, Kansas City3am (Mon)

Route: Algeria's path depends on beating Austria and Jordan. Second place in Group J behind Argentina is achievable. The Argentina game will likely be a damage-limitation exercise, making the other two fixtures the ones to focus on.

Austria's 2026 World Cup Route

Austria have been one of Europe's most improved nations in recent years. Under Ralf Rangnick they reached the Euro 2024 round of 16, and with David Alaba and a generation of talented players, they are genuinely competitive. Group J is difficult but not impossible.

Group J fixtures — UK kick-off times (BST):

Mon 22 JunArgentina vs AustriaAT&T Stadium, Dallas6pm
Sun 28 JunAlgeria vs AustriaArrowhead Stadium, Kansas City3am (Mon)

Route: Austria's opener against Jordan is the most important match of their group — win it and the group becomes competitive. The Algeria game on the final matchday will likely decide who goes through in second place. Austria finishing in the top two is a realistic aspiration.

Jordan's 2026 World Cup Route

Jordan make their World Cup debut in 2026 having qualified through the Asian playoff route. The Nashama will be the underdogs in Group J but they arrive with immense pride in a historic achievement.

Route: Jordan's World Cup route begins with the Austria game — their most realistic chance of a result. A competitive performance against Algeria and anything they can take from the Argentina match would complete a memorable group stage for a nation playing its first ever World Cup matches.

Group K: Portugal, DR Congo, Uzbekistan, Colombia

Portugal's 2026 World Cup Route

Portugal are one of the tournament's strongest sides and carry enormous expectation. Cristiano Ronaldo, now 41, is playing in his final World Cup — but Portugal's strength in 2026 extends well beyond him. Bruno Fernandes, Bernardo Silva, Rafael Leão and Rúben Dias make this a complete, dangerous squad capable of going all the way.

Group K fixtures — UK kick-off times (BST):

DateMatchVenueUK Time
Fri 17 JunPortugal vs DR CongoNRG Stadium, Houston6pm
Tue 23 JunPortugal vs UzbekistanNRG Stadium, Houston6pm
Sun 28 JunColombia vs PortugalHard Rock Stadium, Miami12:30am (Mon)

If Portugal finish 1st: Strongly expected. Topping Group K puts Portugal in a bracket pathway shared with France — the two could potentially meet in the knockout rounds. Their route to the semi-finals is very credible.

If Portugal finish 2nd: Colombia could push them for the group win. Regardless of position, Portugal will qualify and remain dangerous in the knockout stage.

DR Congo's 2026 World Cup Route

DR Congo return to the World Cup for the first time since 1974 — a wait of over 50 years. One of Africa's most passionate footballing nations, the Leopards have worked hard to reach this stage. Their games against Uzbekistan and Colombia are the key fixtures in their World Cup route.

Sun 28 JunDR Congo vs UzbekistanMercedes-Benz Stadium, Atlanta12:30am (Mon)

Route: DR Congo's World Cup route centres on the Uzbekistan game — likely their most competitive fixture. Taking points from Colombia would be a significant achievement. A third-place qualification route is the realistic but difficult target.

Uzbekistan's 2026 World Cup Route

Uzbekistan make their World Cup debut — one of four first-time qualifiers in 2026. The White Wolves have been Central Asia's dominant force in recent years, and their appearance in North America this summer is a landmark moment for football in their region.

Group K fixtures — UK kick-off times (BST):

Sat 18 JunUzbekistan vs ColombiaEstadio Azteca, Mexico City3am (Sat)
Tue 23 JunPortugal vs UzbekistanNRG Stadium, Houston6pm
Sun 28 JunDR Congo vs UzbekistanMercedes-Benz Stadium, Atlanta12:30am (Mon)

Route: Uzbekistan's World Cup route runs through the DR Congo game — the match they will have circled since the draw. A win there, combined with something from the Colombia game, could make them one of the best third-place qualifiers. This is genuinely historic territory for Uzbek football.

Colombia's 2026 World Cup Route

Colombia are one of the most exciting South American teams at this World Cup. Copa América 2024 runners-up, Los Cafeteros — led by the brilliant James Rodríguez — will push Portugal for top spot in Group K and have the squad to go deep in the tournament.

Group K fixtures — UK kick-off times (BST):

Sat 28 JunColombia vs DR CongoEstadio Akron, Guadalajara3am (Sat)
Sun 28 JunColombia vs PortugalHard Rock Stadium, Miami12:30am (Mon)

Route: Colombia should finish second in Group K. Their final group game against Portugal could be the most intriguing of the group stage for neutral observers. A Round of 32 place is the minimum target, and with James Rodríguez in form, they could go much further.

Group L: England, Croatia, Ghana, Panama

England's 2026 World Cup Route

England are one of the four highest-ranked teams at the 2026 World Cup. Under Thomas Tuchel, England finally look like a coherent, well-organised side with a world-class squad and a clear tactical identity. Group L — with Croatia, Ghana and Panama — is very manageable, though the Croatia opener is the most testing of the three.

Group L fixtures — UK kick-off times (BST):

DateMatchVenueUK Time
Tue 17 JunEngland vs CroatiaAT&T Stadium, Dallas9pm
Tue 23 JunEngland vs GhanaGillette Stadium, Foxborough9pm
Sat 27 JunPanama vs EnglandMetLife Stadium, New Jersey10pm

If England finish 1st in Group L:
England enter the knockout rounds in the stronger bracket position. Their pathway through the Round of 32 and into the Round of 16 is likely to feature a lower-ranked group runner-up — making the early knockout rounds navigable. From the quarter-finals onwards, any team is possible. Crucially, by finishing first, England are placed on the same side of the bracket as France but away from Spain until the final, and away from Argentina until at least the semi-finals.

If England finish 2nd in Group L:
England would face the winner of a nearby group in the Round of 32 — a stiffer test. The route to the quarter-finals becomes harder, though any England squad of this quality should be capable of progressing. Finishing second is not ideal, but it is far from a death sentence.

If England finish 3rd (best-eight route):
Theoretically possible if England are held in two matches, but very unlikely for a squad of this calibre. A third-place qualification would place England in the most difficult part of the knockout bracket. Finishing in the top two is the clear priority.

England last reached a World Cup final in 1966. The 2026 tournament represents a genuine opportunity — the squad is deep, the group is manageable, and the bracket has been kind.

Croatia's 2026 World Cup Route

Croatia may be in transition — but Luka Modrić, now 40, is still here for what is surely his final World Cup. The Vatreni were finalists in 2018 and third-place in 2022. Even in a new era, this is a team built on culture, resilience and the experience of having been in every situation the knockout rounds can produce.

Group L fixtures — UK kick-off times (BST):

DateMatchVenueUK Time
Tue 17 JunEngland vs CroatiaAT&T Stadium, Dallas9pm
Thu 24 JunPanama vs CroatiaBMO Field, Toronto12am (Fri)
Sat 27 JunCroatia vs GhanaLincoln Financial Field, Philadelphia10pm

Route: Croatia's path to the knockout stage runs through the Panama and Ghana games. A draw or win against England on June 17 would transform Group L entirely. Second place behind England is the most likely scenario, and from there a Croatia team led by Modrić in his final tournament is a dangerous Round of 32 opponent for anyone.

Ghana's 2026 World Cup Route

Ghana return to the World Cup with renewed energy and a young, attack-minded squad. The Black Stars have the quality to be competitive across all three Group L games, and their opener against Panama is effectively a must-win for any realistic progression.

Group L fixtures — UK kick-off times (BST):

DateMatchVenueUK Time
Tue 17 JunGhana vs PanamaBMO Field, Toronto12am (Wed)
Tue 23 JunEngland vs GhanaGillette Stadium, Foxborough9pm
Sat 27 JunCroatia vs GhanaLincoln Financial Field, Philadelphia10pm

Route: Ghana win the Panama game and the group becomes genuinely open. A strong performance against England and a result against Croatia could see the Black Stars through in second place or as one of the better third-place finishers. Their World Cup route beyond the group stage would be one to watch.

Panama's 2026 World Cup Route

Panama have grown significantly as a footballing nation since their 2018 World Cup debut. The Canaleros are resilient and well-organised — the kind of team that keeps it tight, waits for their moment, and occasionally produces a shock result.

Group L fixtures — UK kick-off times (BST):

DateMatchVenueUK Time
Tue 17 JunGhana vs PanamaBMO Field, Toronto12am (Wed)
Thu 24 JunPanama vs CroatiaBMO Field, Toronto12am (Fri)
Sat 27 JunPanama vs EnglandMetLife Stadium, New Jersey10pm

Route: Panama's World Cup route is defined by the Ghana opener and the Croatia match in Toronto. Win both and they are in the knockout rounds. A draw against England in New Jersey — their biggest stage yet — would add to an already historic group stage.
